71 Gramercy brings clubbing to new heights

Last night my friends and I had drinks while tucked between seas of glittering lights – the clear night sky dotted with stars above, and the breathtaking blanket of Makati’s city lights below. We were at 71 Gramercy, one of the city’s newest and hottest lounge clubs.

Situated at a phobia-inducing 70 stories above street level, the place not only offers a breathtaking view of the metropolis below, but also an excellent dinner menu. You can wine and dine and relax with friends and family while enjoying the feeling of being on top of the world for a few hours.

I got a feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night.

What I love about this place is that everything is simple but sophisticated; understated but unquestionably elegant. From the simple black canopy over the entrance, to the subtle lighting in the lounge area, to the immaculately attentive wait staff, the establishment just oozes with class and a hint of Something sizzling just below the surface.

Step into opulence that isn’t off-putting… nice, right?

The place is divided into three areas – dining, lounge, and al fresco, each one with its own fully stocked bar. Please note that the dining area is limited, and if you want to get in, you’d best be making reservations well ahead of time. But anyone can walk in and enjoy the two lounge areas, both of which, amazingly, are conducive to conversation – not exactly something I’d come to expect in a club, but a very welcome innovation indeed.

The dining area is open for dinner only, and seating begins at 6pm. The lounge areas are open at 9:30pm until 4:00am the next day.

And you just KNOW this is my fave part of the whole outfit.

We came for Sparklers, the club’s Monday night nod to the 90’s and nostalgia. We were met by the night’s host and Promotions Manager Ms. Fran Olivia and her husband DJ Rico Arce. We were also pleasantly surprised that one of the club’s owners, GP Reyes, had taken the time to meet us as well, together with his beautiful new wife, music industry personality and fellow blogger, Andi Manzano-Reyes.

Verdict: Overall, it’s a really nice place to take a date for dinner and drinks (I have it on good counsel that the fillet Mignon is a thing of beauty), or to meet old friends and share an exceptionally good bottle of scotch. Expect to spend an average of P5,000 for that date, though, and if you’re in a group of four to six, roughly a thousand per head if you’re relatively moderate drinkers.

But I do recommend that you come here, even once, just to enjoy the view. Trust me, it’s worth the splurge.
