Soirée Beaujolais 2014 celebrates tradition and innovation

Every year, people around the world share in a novel wine experience at precisely a minute after midnight on the 3rd Thursday of November. At this time, wine lovers pop open a bottle or three of Beaujolais Nouveau, a young, fruity wine that is perfectly right for drinking at that exact moment.

In the Philippines, this party is hosted annually by the French Chamber of Commerce, and this year’s Soiree Beaujolais promises to be even more expansive than the previous year’s celebration. Held at the Tent City of the Manila Hotel, it will not only serve as a grand celebration of fine wine, but it is also an occasion for many of the French nationals living in the Philippines to come together and reconnect.

There’s space enough for 1,500 people at the venue, which will be lavishly decorated according to this year’s theme by premier stylist and event director Mari Hilario. This year’s theme is a little different. The past years have focused on icons of French culture– The Moulin Rouge, the castles of Loire, and the Streets of Paris. This year, it focuses instead on a theme– Tradition and Innovation. So you can expect Mari and her team from Creative Files, Inc. to create a venue that will tell the story of France’s dynamic movement from the turn of the century in the 20s up to today by way of murals, visual collages, lighting, music, and the interpretative renderings in dance and other theatrical art forms.

It’s quite fitting, seeing as France has been quietly making cutting edge innovations in various industries such as automation, aeronautics, and information technology. Furthermore, there are few areas where tradition and tech marry more beautifully than in the process of wine making. Decades of dedication to the craft of creating beautiful vintages by generations of French farmers and vintners has elevated it to an art form where technological advancement only enriches the old-school techniques.

Not only will the night be about wine- it will also feature cheese and other delicacies especially flown in from France. The Manila Hotel will prepare even more gastronomical delights, including exotic hors d’oeuvres, charcuterie, fresh oysters, a myriad of salad concoctions, the hot French and continental cuisine, the pastries and fabulous desserts which the hotel is patronized for.

Major Sponsor EDI Peugeot will showcase its signature cars, and Marithe’ + Francois Girbaud will punctuate the evening with a dazzling denim show by the Philippine All Star performers.
